Infighting Delays EOS Launch

One of the most eagerly anticipated Blockchain launches is delayed – again. The EOS Blockchain was supposed to go live on June 7, but infighting within the community has delayed it once again. Originally due to go live on June 2, the launch was postponed while backend work on the project was being completed, meaning the Blockchain hasn’t even been created yet.

Going Live – the Challenges

After its year-long ICO, EOS was finally supposed to go live this week. 50 candidates had stepped up to block producers, and groups of developer organizations were supposed to coordinate the entire “go live” operation. They are Ghostbusters (who are now calling themselves EOS Core) and Bios Boot.

However, the two groups are already disagreeing with each other about the best version of the software to be launched. Both groups are now working on different versions of EOSIO, with each trying to issue their version as the most acceptable one.

Each of the two groups is made up of organizations that are vying for one of those 21 validator-of-blocks “jobs”, a super lucrative role that is going to be awarded with newly minted EOS tokens.

The thing is, the entire community of EOS users have to vote to decide who gets those precious 21 block validator jobs, and the main factors that will affect the voting will be the credibility of the organizations, their name recognition as well as the trust they inspire in the community.

The two groups responsible for the launch of the mainnet are being motivated by the fact that whoever launches the “real” EOS Blockchain will get the backing that will be needed to secure those valuable positions. Hence, the competition is truly intense at this point.

According to Steve Floyd from EOS Tribe, a sub-organization of the main EOS Core group, EOS is a meritocracy, so obviously there is intense competition among groups with regard to the elections.

The Outcome

Despite the disagreements and intense competition between the two groups, the EOS Mainnet Launch Group (EMLG) – a coalition of most of the block producer candidates – put out a statement that spoke for the entire community that the while there are two groups working on the software for the new Blockchain, only one will be presented to the community in the end.

According to industry experts, this intense competition and debate with regard to which software version of EOSIO should be launched could actually be beneficial for the community in the long run. This is because multiple architectures could actually ensure that the best one gets picked. And the competition between the two groups – as well the prize at the end of it – would motivate each side to present the best possible option they can.
