Tor Makes Launching BTC Lightning Codes Easier

Tor, which is a privacy-minded network, is known for helping users leapfrog one of the trickier aspects of setting up a lightning node alongside Bitcoin. Interestingly, it has found a way to make the entire process a lot easier than before. Here is everything about it in a nutshell.

Making the Process Easier

According to the official report, Jameson Lopp, the Casa CTO, addressed this narrative during a talk at the recently held CoinDesk’s Consensus 2019 conference. At the event, he went to discuss what exactly Casa has discovered about its product. The latter, by essence, is a plug-and-play BTC and lightning node specifically designed to help users fund the software in a much easier process.

Basically, the process people typically do is funneling their node network traffic via the aforementioned network in an attempt to significantly improve privacy. This is simply due to the fact that the network is capable of shielding the node’s IP address, which is responsible for showcasing its exact location.

Tor’s capability in the process is deemed to be interesting. That is because the approach it uses can help users blast through some of the rigorous networking obstacles, which often come when the node is being set up.

Overcoming Multitude of Issues

According to Lopp, with Tor, users have the ability to just “punch through” all issues known when it comes to networking. He believes that the privacy-minded network is essential in the sense that it provides users a much better approach in this scenario.

It is worth noting that Casa decided to add Tor back in April last year. Although some claims that it is a bit contradictory, one of the biggest issues when it comes to setting up a full node is ensuring that other nodes are able to see it on the network. Lopp added that this process alone already takes a good amount of time from the support staff. And, in order to do so, users are often required to move forward with “port forwarding.”

Theoretically speaking, the entire process should be straightforward. The idea is as simple as plugging in the port number that the node is running on right into the port forward site of the router. Unfortunately, users tend to encounter a multitude of issues, especially since a good number of different routers come with a variety of settings. And while some may see to be easier to set up, others simply work the other way around.
