In the latest blockchain news, Ripple has decided to partner with a prominent university in China in hopes of building a blockchain research program. According to the official report, Tsinghua University’s very own Institute for Fintech Research (THUIFR), which is located in Beijing, announced recently a scholarship program. The latter, in particular, is focused on global regulatory policies and the development of a blockchain program.

Blockchain Research Program

The director of the international cooperation and development at the aforementioned University, Ivy Gao, suggested that the initiative is specifically aimed at providing students a “comprehensive view” towards the global blockchain regulatory policies. Gao also believes that this would significantly help them when it comes to their future career or research in the world of blockchain technology.

As far as Eric Van Miltenburg is concerned, who is Ripple’s SVP of global operations, the program has an ultimate goal since its inception. Basically, it would provide students the means and opportunities in blockchain research. These are all closely aligned with the company’s very own University Blockchain Research Initiative.

The aforementioned executive said that they are all excited to support THUIFR in this journey. At the same time, they are very much looking forward to the upcoming launch.

Funding Blockchain Research

Sometime in June last year, Ripple revealed that it was going to put at least $50 million into academic research into blockchain. This initiative, in particular, would target students via its own university initiative program. In fact, the firm managed to partner with about 17 universities across the globe at that time. This would include institutions from different countries, such as Brazil, Canada, Europe, Australia, the United States, and South Korea.

Apart from Ripple, all blockchain research projects coming from various educational institutions were able to acquire funding support from government agencies as well. As a matter of fact, just earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Energy announced the federal funding, which was believed to have reached $4.8 million. This funding is targeted at universities, particularly the ones that are working on research and development projects, including those related to the blockchain program.

Also, Ripple announced that it had a handful of banks expected to go live with their blockchain solution called xRapid. This one here is going to continue the creation of a lot buzz in the field. Just a couple of days after the announcement, there were over five financial institutions that had decided to go liv with the aforementioned blockchain solution.
